Hello again my kiddies! Are you ready to have another monster meet-up again? Well I hope so because we have a new show for you and your ghoul pack to attend. The Double Feature FREEK OUT will be a night filled with horror art and films. You know what my favorite part about the show is? It's FREE to get into!!! Yessssss!! I've always wanted to put on a free show because I hate charging my pals to come hang out.

Woobies was kind enough to let us take over their space again but this time things are a bit different. Instead of having awesome bands for entertainment, we'll be showing TWO amazingly fun horror films on a projector screen. The first film is a bit of classic zombie cinema and is also one of my favorites "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things". The second film "Chillerama" is a newer film but is a nod to the old drive in expierience and tells not one, but four tales of cryptic campiness and terror. Now, I want to stress that this isn't your normal movie night. Yes we'll have chairs about for you to sit in, but PLEASE, do NOT worry about being on your best behavior. BOO the teens, CHEER on the zombies, HECKLE the horrible acting. The last thing I want is everyone sitting quietly in their chairs and hushing anyone that makes a peep. This isn not at a theatre, it's a bar. Have a drink and relax yourself. Oh yeah, I almost forgot.  I Hope you like popcorn with your movies because we'll have FREE POPCORN for you to snack on.

Now on top of the great films we're showing, we'll have fantastic artists from all over Michigan displaying their own creepy creations. Each of the artists will be in person and have a table set up with their talent on display and for sale. Be sure to chat it up with them and purchase your own piece of independent horror art. Artists in attendance include myself, Robert Nixon, Vanessa Perez, Myla Jayne Strange, Steve Jencks, Roger Sholz, Jerry Shirts, Chris Ringler, Amanda Emery, and Cee Jay Jones.

As a special treat we are bringing back our fiends from the Seance ALIVE! event, the Doppelganger Circus Sideshow! They will be mixing up the entertainment for the night by performing their visual insanity LIVE and in your face during our intermission between the two films.

All of this is going down in April. What day? Friday the 13th of course. Don't miss out on this night of blood, booze, and insanely cool art. SEE YOU THERE!!

An art extravaganza with Nix, Boudoir Bizarre, Monster King Productions and Kreeps!

Come on in to our photo and art studio (The Spookery) on December 10th, 2011 as part of RIC's holiday open-house! We'll have many new items out for sale and your ocular perusal including new art, new photos, t-shirts, buttons, items from Boudoir Bizarre and even some Christmas themed pieces (well... within reason, of course. This is US after all).

We will also be joined by the candy-colored Stephen Vincent and Monster King Productions! So this is an extra special treat, as The Monster King has never exhibited at The Russell before! MKP infuses horror and pop like none other, and we're excited to have him here with us!

As an added treat, the one-and-only Dom Kreep from the awesome band, Kreeps, will be performing special, one-man-band versions of select Kreeps songs! Come to the Russell to see the first North American, musical performance of Kreeps! www.facebook.com/events/320482084644011/ Who will be joined by Detroit's own Calling All Sinners (just added)! It's gonna be a loud night for art and music!

And while you're here, you can wish that cranky, old bastard, Nix, a happy 36th birthday! (His birthday's actually the following day, but close enough.) So come down, support local, indie artists during this slow-recession holiday season! It's a good deed!

Monster King Productions is putting on it's first ever event and we want to let you in on all the details so here is an extensive look into what will be going down that night.
The What, When, Wheres -
Monster King Presents: Seance ALIVE!
October 14th 2011
at Woobies Bar (4011 S. Saginaw St Flint, MI 48507)
Tickets are $10. Only 100 tickets will be sold! (purchase online HERE)
Ages 21 and up only.
What IS Seance ALIVE!?
Monster King owner, Stephen Vincent created the term Seance ALIVE! to describe the chaotic climax in what you and I know as a traditional seance. Meaning when the wind bursts through the windows, lights are flashing on and off, books flying from their shelves, and spirits conjured are flying over head.  Basically, that's what we're doing here. Calling upon the spirits of our most ghoulish of fiends to put on a SHOW for the people.
The event is acting as few things. A celebration of the season, a tip of the hat to all things creepy, and it just so happens to land on the eve of the event creator's birthday. That's right, if nothing else you can come party down with the Monster King himself as he rings in his 29th year of madness on this earth!
Seance ALIVE! is being brought to you at a smaller venue to create a very personal expierience. So that those in attendance can meet the artists, see the performances up close, and really feel that they are a part of the show. We're going to transform Woobies into our very own land of the dead. MKP is also not in this for your dollars. The ONLY reason we are charging for tickets is to cover the night's entertainment and expenses. Only 100 tickets will be sold and the only people on the "guest list" are those working the event that night. Hell, even the Monster King is paying to get in.
The Art -
Seance ALIVE! Will have full exhibits from artists Stephen Vincent (owner of MKP) and Robert Nixon (frequent MKP collaborator). While both create images with roots in horror, they are almost opposite in the way they present it to the public. Stephen, an illustrator and painter, uses bright colors and clean lines to create characters that pop right out of the picture and into your nightmares. While Nixon, a photographer and designer, takes a much grittier approach to his work that will touch that deepest, darkest part of your soul. Both will have art on display and merchandise for sale at the event. We'll also have special one-offs on display from some of our other artist friends. Keep your eye out here for more info on just who those artists will be. *UPDATE* NEW artists have been added to the show including Heather Hansma, Cee Jay Jones, and Tub Welch!
The Music -
The event's musical entertainment was carefully hand picked and fits PERFECTLY with our theme of all things delightfully sick and twisted.
Well first off we have quite an odd individual. We were trying to contact our friend Ryan Gregory and all we got were calls back from an Uncle Creepy. He insisted that Mr. Gregory couldn't attend and that HE would perform in his place.  This Uncle Creepy then rambled on about his collection of human teeth or something, we're not quite sure. Either way, He's a one man band that you won't want to miss!
Up next is hot rod ghoul rock from the Motor city! If The Sonics, The Munsters, and Big Daddy Ed Roth all got together and Frankenstein-ed their own monster together it would be The Casket Bastards. These freaks only come out during the Halloween season, so to catch a show is a rarity and you will NOT want to miss their performance at Seance ALIVE!
Lastly, we bring you the most psychotic group of madmen that you'll see all year. Country Bob and the Bloodfarmers have been haunting stages all over Detroit and beyond ever since their first release in 1985! It is a super RARE treat to catch this gang of country punks in action anymore, but you can witness the insanity first hand OCTOBER 14TH!
The Sideshow -
YES! WE HAVE AN EFFING CIRCUS SIDESHOW! Not for the faint of heart, the Doppelganger Circus Sideshow will send chills down your spine like you've never expierienced before. Witness classic acts like "The Human Blockhead", "The Bed of Nails" and MORE brought to you in a creatively distinct way that only the diabolical Doppelganger duo can perform!
The Special Guest DJ -
Now this is a treat for us here at Monster King. You know that real fancy theme song that was created for us by the band of souls known as Kreeps? Well if you don't, you can find it in the upper right corner of our website (as well as on Itunes). Any how, the mad professor behind the band is coming to be our very special guest DJ for the night. Yes, Dom Kreep will be filling our night full of sweet tunes to wake the dead by!
Everything Else -
On top of it all we'll be having games and raffles with AMAZING prizes to win, surprise performances, costume constests (NOTE: Just so you know, if you come as a candy corn witch you'll get a free stab in the face), and at the very end of the night?  When everyone's all good and juiced up...a dance off presented and judged by our very own Monster Queen, Vanessa Perez! WOOOO!
PRIZES! PRIZES! PRIZES!
If you have to work, be somewhere else, or are just to far away, WORRY NOT! Just kill yourself and we'll ressurect your soul so that you can join the festivities at Seance ALIVE!

Aside from our own event, Monster King Productions will be taking part in these AMAZING shows!!!

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a celebration of the lives of loved ones who have departed this world. It is known primarily as a Mexican holiday, but it is also celebrated in the United States, Latin America, and parts of Europe and Asia. There are also cultures around the world that have holidays of their own in the same spirit, such as Japan’s Bon Festival. Human beings have a propensity to celebrate the lives of their dead.

In honor of this global tradition, Starkweather Arts Center is hosting a group show of over 35 international artists inspired by Dia de los Muertos. The show is curated by Heather Hansma, who is an illustrator and lowbrow gallery artist from Metro Detroit. The artists in this show are an eclectic group representing a vast array of approaches to art. It makes for a show that is dually cohesive and incredibly diverse. During the opening there will also be a one night performance piece by Jayme Ludwig in full Dia de los Muertos-themed regalia.

Artists participating in the show include Stephen Vincent, Cody Schibi, Love & A Sandwich, Hello Again Monsters, Kill Taupe, ThEm DoLLz, Plush Goodness, Kat Brunnegraff, Deadly Sweet, Crystal Mielcarek, Patti Haskins, Plushroom Soup, Juana Moore, Kristin Barr, Ben Butcher, Lee DeVito, Happycloud Thunderhead, Anna Lisa Schneider, Perfect Laughter, Jenn and Tony Bot, Matt Lackey, Shannon O’Neill, Megan Harris, Jason Cole, Matt Deterior, Allison Gardiner, Amy Beth Geerling Payne, Katerina Friday, Lauren Magda, Brian Iler, Adrienne Lesperance, Serra Abend, Erin McManness, Jayme Ludwig, Jonathan Wilcox, Kat Thacker, and Heather Hansma.

In addtion to the visual delights, Detroit folk rock band The Hand and the Ocean will be performing during the opening. Seasonal food and drink will be served as well.
